Rachel Maddow does not hold her tongue and when she does let go, it's intelligent and painfully precise and somewhat personal. If you were watching the coverage of the first night of the Democratic Convention on MSNBC and witnessed this comment, then you know what I'm talking about (around the 2 minute mark and if you can't stand Pat, go on to 3:40).
I wanted to just write about how touched and inspired I was by that amazing speech brought to us by Michelle Obama. That is the woman I've grown to admire in the past few months. She showed the world what some of us have known for months.
If you missed the speech or you want to read it, I want to share it here.
If you saw Michelle Obama give this speech, tell me what you thought and are you fired up about this woman being our first lady? I am, I can't wait.
I'm proud of my husband. Gary Pritchard is running for State Senate in California. It's the 33rd district and his opponent is a very far right neo-con Republican named Mimi Walters. The odds of my husband winning this race are not good but the most important thing about this race for me and for him is getting a "D" on the ballot and running the best race he can. I promised I would back him up on this and I've done that.
According to his calculations he's knocked on over 10,000 doors this summer. Gary has also been running as a moderate. Why? Because he understands the reality of our district and that a moderate Democrat would represent far more voters than a far right Republican who takes their seat for granted.
But there are some things you cannot be moderate on, such as a woman's right to choose. Either you support it or you don't. Gary supports it and this is the letter he wrote to NARAL for their endorsement. Gary is also running this race for our Five year old daughter Charlotte.
I've become a dog lover in the past year and I can't tell you how much joy my Kona girl has brought to my life in just the last month. I wrote about our journey in this diary and the following story I found has to be spread far and wide. It must.
Not really but he most certainly is not an "unknown quantity", he's only been under the microscope for the past 18 months, there is no way anyone can sincerely say that they don't know who Obama is. Especially when they have us to share what we know of Barack Obama.
Noun 1. unknown quantity - a factor in a given situation whose bearing and importance is not apparent; "I don't know what the new man will do; he's still an unknown quantity"at we know of the man.

Fit Kos-friends have more energy to elect more and better Democrats!
Yes, we live in Aliso Viejo and Saddleback Church is about fifteen minutes away on side streets in Lake Forest. This is our district, this is the district that Gary is running in and it's conservative.
I've written many diaries about this and his struggle to raise money and get his message out and let Republicans, Democrats and Declined to States know that there is an alternative to Republican rule. It was time to end automatically electing those who pander to the far right because they can depend on election merely based on registration percentages (29% Democratic and 51% Republican).
SO I'm back again asking for your help as I sit and listen to our Presidential nominees just down the way from my home. This is where I live.
I'm confessing here but I'm hoping in talking about my experience I can educate and enourage others to avoid the mistakes I made. I hope to find a means to do this in my community as well.
This is Sophie. Sophie is a weimaraner and we purchased her from a pet store in October of 2007. She was just a couple of months old and she was our first family dog.
I know, you aren't supposed to admit something like this but it is true. Asking for money is not easy, especially when you know there are so many people hurting out there.
I think so far the most stressful thing about helping my husband run for office is fund raising. We're not naturals at this, it's something you don't usually just know how to do, it's an art form, seriously.
And the campaign is taking a toll on me. I'm confessing, it's been hard. The last two weeks with a kick off party and a ballot statement to pay for, I've found my Fibromyalgia is acting up the most it ever has. In fact yesterday was one of the worst ever.
joyful, a fellow Kossack wrote an amazing diary in support of my husband campaign and dadanation donated his artwork as a gift with donation. They both don't know me or my husband but were, for whatever reason, were drawn to Gary's campaign. It meant to the world to us.
This restored my faith in the power of Daily Kos. The site is often focussed on just the one election, which matters immensely but there are thousands of good Democrats running for office and all of them should be important as well. Thank you to everyone who commented and donated. Thank you so much.
So, the ballot statement we paid $7,371 for behind the cut...
Today is here and yesterday is over. Why am I writing this? Because as a reader and a John Edwards supporter I want to urge you not to change a damn thing about this blog. Why? Because the issues that are so important to us may not be as in focus today if it hadn't been for what John Edwards did throughout the campaign season. I believe this wholeheartedly.
What John did in 2006 has no bearing on Universal Health Care. What happened in 2006 does not make poverty in this County any less of an urgent issue. The corporate media would love to believe that what John did in 2006 would mean one less powerful voice talking about the strangle hold that corporations have on every facet of our lives in this Country.
Nothing can take away from these issues unless we let it happen.
That's right. Misha(Ma’Heo)Houser, a good friend, an amazing democrat and a brilliant artist put forth a breathtaking piece of digital art for Orange County's Artists for Obama. This was a fundraiser meant to raise money to send local delegates to the convention in Denver. Both Charlotte and I attended this event Saturday night and the print is even more gorgeous in person.
Yes, I know crazy huh? We're just $1,200 away from being able to pay for our ballot Statement on Friday and I'm asking you for your help. We can't put this money out there, it's just not possible.
Behind the cut? My various Edwards pooties, Democratic Pooties and randomness. Why? Because, I'm tired. I want a happy post rather thank thinking of the people telling us not to bother running in this very red County. No race is lost unless no one stands up to run.
Do you want to know something about Gary? Here is our website. Gary has also been endorsed by Debbie Cook and the Orange County Employees Association. Unfortunately tomorrow, Gary and Charlotte will be driving to Bakersfield for a funeral, Gary's grandmother passed away last week.
This Friday we have to come up with almost $8,000 to get our ballot statement to every voter in the 33rd district of California. This is the best way to get Gary's message to the voters.
Last Thursday we had our Campaign Kick off party, it was a blast and Gary enjoyed playing a bit of music and meeting different Republicans and Democrats in our district. It was a good time and we had about sixty people come, a great turn out with the short amount of time we had to get it together.
Yes, I am referring to the diary on the recommended list. What really boggles my mind is that people fail to realize something here.
Barack Obama is coming to Orange County this weekend and he will probably pocket a cool million on his visit. Now, do you think California is winnable by McCain? Kerry took it, Gore took it, Obama would have to really blow it not to win California. So, here comes the National candidate to use the OC as an ATM machine.
Do you know who is running as a Democrat for State Senate or Assembly in your district? Do you know what district you're in for local races? Do you ever bother to research these candidates or give them small donations that can mean a lot more than a donation to Obama?
I really think it's time you did. If you want to see education matter in your community, you have to care locally. If you want to see the environment matter in your State, you have to give and care locally. If you want to see Universal Healthcare in your State, you HAVE to give and volunteer for your local Democrat so they can go to your State Capital and pass a State program.
Do you really want to see things change more quickly? You must believe that the Fifty State strategy goes past the Presidential Election and much further down the ticket.
Today I turn 37 years old and I'm trying to start over, again. Yes, anytime is a good time to start over. I want to go back to school. I want to fix this broken body of mine. I want better things for myself and my family. I deserve that much.
I graduated from Smith College in 1997 at the age of 26. I met my husband the day after I got back from College. Yes and we had a whirlwind romance. I lost myself for a long time and I'm trying very hard to claw my way back to the top. It has been a long journey full of all kinds of surprises. Life happens while your making plans. What happens when you stop making plans? Life still happens.
Reposting because this diary meant a lot to me personally...
It's been at least a couple of weeks since I heard Pat Buchanan on the Thom Hartmann show and I can't get what he said out of my mind. Buchanan was torn up about the disappearance of Europeans on Planet earth. Of course you know what he's talking about. Here is an excerpt from a review of his book...
When one remembers that if there is one cause Mr. Buchanan himself cherishes it is immigration restriction — when one recalls his words on "national suicide" and the "invasion" of America by nonwhites, and his constant inveighing against multiculturalism — when one remembers that the first pages of this very book lament that "as a share of world population, peoples of European ancestry have been shrinking for three generations," that "we are slowly disappearing from the earth" — Mr. Buchanan's feline criticism of Churchill stands as a piece of truly shameless hypocrisy.
